Athletes Foot and Its Causes
Athletes foot is an infection on the skin of the feet, most likely caused by a fungus. When the feet and other sections of the body remain moist, warm and irritated, the fungus can continue to grow and infect the top layers of the skin.
The primary cause of athletes feet is the fungus ringworm , the medical term being "timea." Tinea pedis is another name for athletes foot. The fungus that can often lead to athletes foot can be found in areas that are damp like locker room floors, Athletes foot can be found on pieces of clothing that retain moisture such as socks. Sometimes the fungus that causes athletes foot spreads between when they come in contact with these objects. However, the fungus that causes athletes foot will not be able to grow on the top layers of the skin without a warm moist environment.
Athletes foot can also be caused by a tear or abrasion on the bottom section of the feet. Less prevalent causes exist where the fungus that causes athletes feet is transferred from non-human species to human.
