Signs and Symptoms of Athletes Foot

Some key indicators of athletes feet include itchiness and burning sensations in the foot. In these conditions, the skin on the foot or feet will frequently peel, and in some instances, pain and bleeding may also occur.

When the surface of the foot is injured by a cut or abrasion, ringworm fungi and bacteria may invade the skin. The bacteria that invades the skin can cause foot odor and can be a major inconvenience to the individual. A bacterial infection of the skin may even result in a spreading condition known as cellulites. Individuals with other health problems and impaired immune systems are at a greater risk than healthy individuals. Some individuals at greater risk for cellulites include the elderly, diabetics, those with chronic leg swelling, patients with decreased immune systems, patients with veins removed from their limbs. Patients that have undergone cardiac procedures are at a greater risk for contracting cellulites.
