Glucose Control in Treating Diabetes
Maintaining Glucose Levels for Diabetes
A study in diabetes that was conducted during the periods from 1983 to 1993 greatly contributed to our understanding of diabetes. The study surveyed fifteen hundred Type 1 diabetes patients at twenty nine sites around Canada and the U.S. A similar study was conducted in 1998 produced similar results. That study was called the United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study.
The findings were that the level of blood sugar control will foretell the onset and severity of diabetes related complications for both types of diabetes. The results indicate a positive relationship between the normality of blood glucose levels and the health of the individual. If you can keep your blood glucose within normal levels, you have a greater chance of a normal healthy lifespan.
If you can maintain normal blood glucose levels, you will:
- Enjoy better health
- Feel fit
- Have higher energy levels
- Prevent the observable effects of a glucose imbalance. Some observable effects are feeling tired and thirsty, weight loss, urinating frequently, blurry vision and slow healing bruises and cuts.
With a healthy lifestyle and consistent normal blood glucose levels, you will:
- lower the risk of kidney complications, eye problems, neuropathy and heart ailments.
- You will have a higher quality of life.
How do we maintain consistent blood glucose levels?
- Test your blood glucose levels daily, even multiple times during the day. It is helpful to get as high a sample size as possible to track the glucose level changes.
- Keep track of all factors that may effect your blood glucose levels. Some factors include prescription medications, exercise and diet.
- Commit to a diet and physical exercise routine. People with type 2 diabetes on a consistent exercise regimen may be able to avoid the need for prescription medications.
- Keep a close professional relationship with a physician or other expert knowledgeable in the treatment of diabetes.
